The painter's sleight of hand can no more conceal behind a convenient flutter of drapery, who he is, and at what stage of growth, and where his imagination halts, than the photographer can hide behind his camera, which has always revealed who is behind it more mercilessly than who is in front.

This is something I think of often. As much as I enjoy trying out different techniques or unusual lighting or composition, the truth is each photo is a re-examination of who I am, and how I see others. I know I’ve grown more thoughtful since I first started photography, and I think it is visible in my work. The challenge is to keep growing and refining my sensibilities.
