Nathalie in Japan
Nathalie and I met when I was living in Tokyo in 2017. While her ancestry is Japanese, she’s actually Brazilian, born and raised. We only had a brief window of opportunity to work together, so, in the words of Herbie Hancock, “I did what I always do: I improvised.”
We shot in a small apartment with a large window that provided us with soft autumn light which quickly gave way to twilight. As night fell, we utilized the distinctly uneasy light from the kitchen to explore a more somber mood.
A quiet evening in a turbulent time.
