Saya and the Sakura Blossoms
This session with Saya was from a trip I took to Tokyo several years ago. We were lucky that the cherry blossom season was in full swing, and we incorporated a branch into the session.
In Japan, there is a brief mini-season that starts just as winter ends but just before the first buds of leaves appear on trees. During this time, the sakura trees’ flowers explode across the country, with impossible numbers of pink and white petals.
I tried to capture that feeling in this session. Saya brought a sense of playfulness which gradually turned to melancholy.
All images were shot on film, using a vintage Leica camera.
